Eugene’s Hult Center for the Performing Arts offers nationally known talent ranging from the New York Philharmonic Orchestra to rock bands, and regular seasons of theater, opera and ballet. Eugene affords the cultural benefits of a large city with the friendly feel of a small town through its many excellent bookstores, craft breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, and concert venues. The UO School of Music, University Theater, and Cultural Forum present performances, films, and lectures on campus. As a member of the PAC-12, UO offers many events for those enjoy spectator sports. Indoor athletics can be enjoyed in the UO’s brand new Student Recreation and Fitness Center. It is an ideal place for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, skiing (cross-country or downhill), fishing, white-water rafting and rock-climbing. Eugene’s temperate climate has pleasantly warm, sunny summers and mild but wet winters, with lots of snow in the mountains but seldom in Eugene itself.

John moved out of Transitional and this is what he shared at a recent New Life Program graduation: Our students live in our homes for a 12 to 18-month period, receiving residential care, practical mentorship, vocational and life-skills training, as well as an. The end goal is that within a year they will be financially and emotionally ready to live on their own again with great support from outside the Mission. Since 1971 hundreds of thousands of students and families have received help from New Life For Youth and Adults residential, Christian-based training centers. This usually means getting back into the rhythms of going to school or job searching, and continuing with the other goals they have been working on. In Transitional, men have the opportunity to stay in a safe, accountable community while integrating their new life into the broader Bellingham community. For many of them, that means moving on to the Mission’s Transitional Housing. We have four men graduating from the Program this October! They’ve worked hard this past year and are now ready to take the next step. I have learned so much on my issues of anger, pride, procrastination, responsibility, trust, accountability I can go on and on... We have graduates! I’ve learned so much in one year spiritually and as a human being than I have learned for the last twenty years of my life.
